Just Open Yourself is a youth driven non-profit organization in Dehradun that stands strong on the pillars of its volunteers who come together to deliver to the society: hope, love and joy. It is the brainchild of a passionate doonite, Jai Sharma, who channeled his inner force to motivate those around him and bring them together to form a society that could undertake the responsibility of being socially driven.
Founded on strong principles, Just Open Yourself, became a community that not only motivates young minds to come together but also participate regularly in activities that have a concrete and meaningful outcome. At JOY – words, feelings, thoughts and ideas are put to work in the form of workshops, drives, campaigns, events that on a holistic note aim to sensitize people around and evoke in them the sense of being productive assets to the society and to the environment.
“ I, Jai Sharma, was fortunate enough to have lived in a society that was surrounded by people who were compassionate. Growing up, I chose to channel this compassion and find purpose in life. A purpose that would give meaning the existence, a purpose that would impact lives of those around me in the most remarkable way. This is how JOY came into being. It started as my individual purpose that soon became a joining force for all those who were convinced like me, that the world was in need to being rescued and healed. I may have sown the seeds of a socially cautious society, yet the people around me proved that I wasn’t alone in wanting to bring a change.
My belief that the caliber of highly dynamic youth and intellectually aware youth was missing purpose and zeal is the reason why JOY grew into a platform as big as it is and operates successfully today.
As a community, Just Open Yourself, has taken a course that has made me more humble and driven to strive to be better. We at JOY made sure that rather than sitting and complaining about how our systems were flawed and slow, we took to our hands the responsibility to impact the world that mattered to us. Each idea of ours was given a shape that came to resemble the colors of modern art, often contrasting and confusing but as a whole, guided to give meaning to our existence, not just as an organization but deep down in our hearts, defining the kind of individuals we grow up to be. We strive to be better; we aspire to give more hence be it a clean-up drive or an awareness camp, JOY advocates numerous ways to be a productive unit of the society and we are proud of it.”
